Presentation
Obsidian is molten lava that has been cooled so quickly that it hasn't had time to crystallize. It is known as the "stone of truth", from which we cannot hide anything. The use of Obsidian dates back to very ancient times, for the manufacture of weapons and tools, due to its hardness and sharp edge. It was polished for the sole purpose of being used as a mirror.
Legends
Due to its sharpness, Obsidian was considered to pierce the darkness to reveal the truth. The Mayans polished it to use it as divining mirrors, to read the future. In Mexican culture, Obsidian was called Itzli, literally meaning "God of stone".
